Incomplete excision of the progenitor insertion P{PZ}heph2.
The heph2-d1 allele was genereated by incomplete excision of the P{PZ}heph2 element so relative to the reference sequence there is an insertion of unspecified length at this location.
The testis tips of heph2-dl mutants exhibit a high frequency of defects such as minor swelling and the formation of knobs in the tip region. Testes show a lack of individualized non-motile sperm. Many of the cysts of elongated spermatids appear to be less tightly bundled and exhibit localised unraveling compared to controls.
