UAS regulatory sequences drive expression of Nf1 coding sequences.

Expression of Nf1^Scer\UAS.cBa in mushroom body neurons during development and adulthood under the control of inducible Scer\GAL4^{Mef2.247.Switch} (in a RU486 environment) completely rescues the 3 hour memory phenotype seen in Nf1^c00617 mutants. Expression only during adulthood is sufficient for complete rescue.

Expression of Nf1^Scer\UAS.cBa in α'/β' neurons under the control of Scer\GAL4^c305a is not sufficient to rescue the 3 hour memory phenotype of Nf1^c00617 homozygous mutants.

Expression of Nf1^Scer\UAS.cBa in γ neurons under the control of Scer\GAL4^NP1131 is not sufficient to rescue the 3 hour memory phenotype of Nf1^c00617 homozygous mutants.

Expression of Nf1^Scer\UAS.cBa throughout the central brain under the control of Scer\GAL4^Mz1081 is sufficient to rescue the 3 hour memory phenotype of both Nf1^c00617 and Nf1^P1 mutants.

Expression of Nf1^Scer\UAS.cBa throughout the central brain under the control of Scer\GAL4^NP0009 is sufficient to rescue the 3 hour memory phenotype of both Nf1^c00617 and Nf1^P1 mutants.

Expression of Nf1^Scer\UAS.cBa in the α/β mushroom body neurons under the control of Scer\GAL4^c739 is sufficient to rescue the 3 hour memory phenotype of both Nf1^c00617 and Nf1^P1 mutants. Expression of Nf1^Scer\UAS.cBa in α/β neurons under the control of Scer\GAL4^c739 fully rescues the Nf1^P1 3 minute memory phenotype after training. Expression of Nf1^Scer\UAS.cBa under the control of Scer\GAL4^c739 in α/β-neurons fully rescues long-term memory in Nf1^P1 mutants.

Expression of Nf1^Scer\UAS.cBa in the central core of α/β mushroom body neurons under the control of Scer\GAL4^17d is not sufficient to rescue the 3 hour memory phenotype of either Nf1^c00617 and Nf1^P1 mutants.

The Nf1^c00617 3 hour memory phenotype is fully rescued when Scer\GAL4^c747 is used to express Nf1^Scer\UAS.cBa. However, flies also carrying Scer\GAL80^Mef2.PT exhibit a performance score that is indistinguishable from Nf1^c00617 homozygous mutants.
