ScerGAL4GMR18H09 drives expression in mushroom body extrinsic neurons, including mushroom body output neuron 5, that innervate mushroom body gamma lobe slices 1, 2 and 4. Expression overlaps with that driven by EcollexAGMR24E12 in mushroom body output neuron 5.
Inhibition (using Hsap\KCNJ2UAS.EGFP) of Scer\GAL4GMR18H09 neurons, in combination with a Gal80[ts] transgene to restrict expression to 1 day prior to training and testing, significantly improves 3 hour aversive olfactory memory, compared to controls; this effect is lost when inhibition is restricted to a smaller group of cells using Scer\GAL80R24E12.
