Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at [o]C) of Scer\GAL4GMR92H07 cells in adults significantly increases daytime and nighttime sleep, compared to controls; there is also a significant negative rebound on the day following activation, characterised by reduced sleep, compared to controls; activation results in strongly reduced spontaneous walking velocity, compared to controls; initial startle response to stimulation by vibration is unaffected, but the increased velocity decays significantly more rapidly, compared to controls.
Inhibition (using shi1.UAS at 31[o]C) of Scer\GAL4GMR92H07 cells results in a subtle reduction in daytime sleep and a significant reduction in the duration of the longest sleep bout during the day, but not during the night, compared to controls.
