Comment:

Deletion resulting from imprecise excision of P{RS3}UM-8171-3. Reported as a deletion from -1270 to +1375 relative to the zld transcription start site (defined by the start site of zld-RB in earlier FlyBase releases, e.g. r5.1).

zld294 heterozygous as well as zld294/zldZnF1 or zld294/zldEDD transheterozygous females are viable at reduced levels but zld294 hemizygous males are lethal. zld294/zldZnF2 and zld294/zldJAZ females are nearly completely lethal.

Embryos derive from homozygous female germline clones do not cellularise and have no zygotically controlled mitosis corresponding to mitosis 14 in wild-type embryos.

Hemizygous embryos show abnormal central nervous system and head development.

Embryos derived from vfl294 germ-line clones (that lack both maternal and zygotic vfl) show a severely abnormal morphology after mitotic cleavage cycle 14 and do not survive to make cuticle.

Before mitotic cycle 14, embryos derived from vfl294 germ-line clones are similar to wild type except for sporadic nuclear fallout. At early cycle 14 , the hexagonal actin network becomes disorganized and begins to degenerate resulting in a multinucleated phenotype. Cellularization does not proceed as furrow canals never move inward. In addition, nuclei do not elongate but instead become rounded, enlarged and clumped together - regions of higher nuclear density are observed.
