pic5-1 homozygotes exhibit larval brains with signs of quiescence: neuroblasts show a significant decrease in cell divisions (DNA replication/EdU staining); and frequently show a primary cellular process, whereas control neuroblasts show a typically rounded morphology.

pic5-1 individuals on aminoacid-depleted food do not show changes in cell division (DNA replication/EdU staining) on mushroom body neuroblast lineages, as compared to controls.

Larvae homozygous for pic5-1 survive till second instar larval stage.

Approximately 48% of pic5-1 mutant follicle cell clones display reduced or absent BrdU incorporation. In addition, some cells (9.5%) display abnormal genomic replication.
