Co-expression of Rae1Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP completely suppresses the synaptic overgrowth phenotypes seen upon expression of hiwΔN.Scer\UAS.T:Zzzz\TAP under the control of Scer\GAL4BG380.

Comments

Expression of Rae1Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP under the control of Scer\GAL4tub.PU fails to rescue the sterility of homozygous Rae1Z5584 males. However, there is partial rescue of the meiotic defects seen in the testes of these animals. No nuclear herniations are seen in rescued primary spermatocytes, chromosome segregation appear normal at metaphase I and onion stage spermatids have the 1:1 nucleus to Nebenkern ratio typical of wild-type (although their shape is irregular in some cases). Spermatid elongation is seen, but the cysts still show the nuclear misalignment seen in non-rescued homozygotes. Nuclear morphology of elongating spermatids is intermediate between that of wild type and the non-rescued mutants. Meiosis I and II can progress and reach completion in the testes of the rescued males, but this is variable.
