Expression of Zfrp8GL00541 under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16 results in ovarian defects that increase in severity with age. The organisation of the germarium is almost normal in females less than 2 days old, and contains germline stem cells that give rise to a few egg chambers. Ovarioles of 7-10 day old females either contain a large cyst of cells instead of an organised germarium and egg chambers or contain ovarioles that have lost most or all of the germline cells. The spectrosomes of the mutant germline stem cells are often replaced by a fusome-like structure.
