Boundaries are approximate Ack86 is described as a 2.7 kb deletion resulting from the imprecise excision of P{SUPor-P}KG00869 that removes the first and part of the second exon of Ack and extends to 54 bases after the ATG start codon. It's not clear if the upstream boundary is at the insertion site or beyond.
Most homozygous flies eclose with no morphological defects. Homozygous females are fertile.
Homozygous males are completely sterile and their seminal vesicles contain no sperm. The maintenance of germ stem cells and germ cell cytokinesis appears normal in the mutant testes. Properly coiled spermatids are not detected in the mutant testes. The total number of elongated cysts in the mutant testes is normal, but the number of pre-investment cone assembly cysts is reduced, and the number of cysts in which the investment cone has departed is increased compared to wild type. This suggests that the spermatids proceed to individualisation early but fail to coil properly, resulting in an accumulation of cysts in which the investment cone has departed.
The individualisation complexes are displaced from the outer region of the testis coil to the inner region in mutant individualising spermatids. No mature sperm are present in the seminal vesicle in mutant males.
Homozygotes have slightly smaller eyes than normal.

Homozygosity for Ack86 enhances the reduced eye size caused by WGMR.PG.
Ack86/+ flies expressing rprGMR.PH fail to eclose. The pharate adults have eyes that are partially ablated. The ablated eye area is replaced by a hole in the head cuticle where eye tissue would normally reside and the optic lobe region of the brain is visible. The few female adult escapers (no male escapers are seen) have an eye that is slightly reduced in size compared to flies expressing rprGMR.PH in a wild-type background.
dpphr27/+ ; Ack86/Ack86 embryos show dorsal closure defects at a relatively low frequency, but which is significantly higher than the frequency seen in either dpphr27/+ or Ack86/Ack86 single mutant embryos.
dpphr92/+ ; Ack86/Ack86 embryos show dorsal closure defects at a relatively low frequency, but which is significantly higher than the frequency seen in either dpphr92/+ or Ack86/Ack86 single mutant embryos.
