    Detailed Description

ppk29Δ mutant males show no difference in courtship intensity or preference for younger females as compared with wild type.

Homozygous ppk29Δ mutant larvae have significantly reduced preference for larval-treated substrate, compared to controls; attraction to the secreted larval fatty acids (Z)-5-tetradecanoic acid and (Z)-7-tetradecanoic acid is significantly reduced, compared to controls.

In contrast to wild type, orb2Δ mutant males do not exhibit inhibition of the female contact-induced male-male aggression seen in wild type males that have previously been exposed to females.

ppk29Δ mutant males do not show aberrant courtship towards other males.

In a 30min trial, ppk29Δ males court females with reduced frequency and longer latency compared to controls, often with ppk29Δ males failing to court at all.

ppk29Δ mutant flies explosed to oe[-] males (Scer\GAL4desat1.PB, Scer\GAL80ts.αTub84B/WScer\UAS.cZa) painted with 7T, 7P, or cVA, do not exhibit differences in courtship, whereas control males exhibit a reduction in courtship. Additionally, controls increase courtship to oe[-] females painted with 7,11-HD, 7,11-ND, or 7P, whereas ppk29Δ males show no change in behavior.

Introduction of ppk23Scer\UAS.cTa into ppk29Δ mutants under the control of Scer\GAL4ppk23.2.695 fails to suppress the courtship defects found in ppk29Δ mutants.

In proboscis extension assays, ppk23Δ8.284 ppk29Δ double mutant flies show no significant defects in detection of sugars, bitter compounds, salt, or water.

    Comments

Expression of ppk29Scer\UAS.cTa under the control of Scer\GAL4ppk23.2.695 rescues the reduced female courtship found in ppk29Δ mutant males.
