Deletion resulting from the imprecise excision of P{EP}GE20270, extending from -2347 to +5195, where +1 is the translation start of Claspin. A portion of the EP element remains.
Eggs laid by homozygous females show a very low rate of hatching (0.2%). Eggs laid by Claspin45/Df(3L)Exel8098 females fail to hatch. Most embryos laid by the mutant females show normal nuclear morphology until division 10, but after this stage they begin to show an irregular distribution of surface nuclei and and have nuclei with abnormal size or shape. By division 13, less than one-third of the mutant embryos have normal nuclear morphology.
Homozygous and Claspin45/Df(3L)Exel8098 animals show an increased frequency of generation of mutant clones compared to wild type in a loss of heterozygosity assay.
Ionising radiation-induced G2 arrest occurs normally in homozygous eye discs. Ionising radiation-induced apoptosis occurs normally in homozygous eye discs.
Homozygous and Claspin45/Df(3L)Exel8098 eye discs show defects in hydroxyurea-induced G2 arrest.
Homozygous and Claspin45/Df(3L)Exel8098 larvae show reduced survival in the presence of hydroxyurea compared to wild type.
