Homozygotes develop through the third larval instar stage with a 9 day delay compared to heterozygous siblings, and die at pupation. The brains of the homozygous third instar larvae are normal in size, but they completely lack imaginal discs. Salivary gland and fat body nuclei are comparable in size to wild type.
