Homozygotes develop through the third larval instar stage with a 9 day delay compared to heterozygous siblings, and die at pupation. The brains of the homozygous third instar larvae are normal in size, but they completely lack imaginal discs. Salivary gland and fat body nuclei are comparable in size to wild type.

One copy of Top3αΔCT2.T:Avic\GFP-EYFP rescues the lethality of approximately 5% of Top3α54 homozygotes. Two copies of Top3αΔCT2.T:Avic\GFP-EYFP rescue the lethality of approximately 10% of Top3α54 homozygotes.

Top3αM26L.T:Avic\GFP-EYFP fully rescues the viability defects of Top3α54 animals and the rescued animals are fertile.

Top3αM1L.T:Avic\GFP-EYFP fully rescues the viability defects of Top3α54 animals. However, the rescued flies show fertility defects in both sexes.
