Expression of NetBcd8.Scer\UAS widely in the medulla neuropil layers using Scer\GAL4ap-md544 results in approximately 27% of Ecol\lacZPD.Rh6-positive R8 axons stalling at the medulla neuropil border, while 8% terminate incorrectly in the M1/M2 layer.
Expression of NetBcd8.Scer\UAS in a subset of ectopic layers using Scer\GAL4MH502, a driver active in lamina neurons L1/L2, ascending T1 medulla neurons and C2/C3 neurons throughout development, results in 32% of Ecol\lacZPD.Rh6-positive R8 axons stalling at the medulla neuropil border, while 19% stop in the M1/M2 layer.
Expression of NetBcd8.Scer\UAS in T1 neurons, under the control of Scer\GAL4CG14200-NP1086 does not affect R8 targeting to layer M3.
Contains an A793G amino acid substitution, compared to genomic NetB sequence, although this does not appear to affect function.
