Flies carrying one copy of svGMR.PS show a strong rough eye phenotype - frequent loss of photoreceptor cells and their strong deformation is observed. In pupal svGMR.PS/+ eye discs, 78% of ommatidia possess the normal number of four cone cells, 13% have fewer, and only 9% have one supernumerary cone cell. A large number of supernumerary cells are observed between the ommatidia.
svGMR.PS is a suppressor of increased cell death | late third instar larval stage phenotype of ttk88.GMR.Tag:MYC
svGMR.PS has cone cell | pupal stage | increased number phenotype, enhanceable by ttk88.GMR.Tag:MYC
svGMR.PS is an enhancer of cone cell | pupal stage | increased number phenotype of ttk88.GMR.Tag:MYC
Ectopic expression of both svGMR.PS and ttk88.GMR.T:Hsap\MYC generates supernumerary cone cells in about 90% of the ommatidia of pupal eye discs, with a maximum of 11 cone cells observed in one ommatidium.
More than half of the ommatidia in svGMR.PS ttk88.GMR.T:Hsap\MYC eyes have two or three supernumerary cone cells: 30% have three, 24% have two, and 14% have one supernumerary cone cell.
The addition of svGMR.PS results in less photoreceptor cell death in ttk88.GMR.T:Hsap\MYC third instar eye discs.
