Expression of bshScer\UAS.PA under the control of Scer\GAL4vvl-GAL4 induces the formation of ectopic Mi1-like neurons at a low frequency. These neurons are intrinsic to the medulla, have arborisations at M1 and M5 layers and a terminal at M9-10. However, the morphology of the arborisations is abnormal: M5 arborisation is wider than those of endogenous Mi1 neurons.
