Expression of maternally deposited AxnΔArm.αTub84B.T:Zzzz\FLAG reduces the hatch rate of embryos to about 30% of controls. Examination of the larval cuticles reveal no significant effect.
The hatch rate of embryos expressing zygotic AxnΔArm.αTub84B.T:Zzzz\FLAG is not significantly affected. About half of the embryos complete development and reach adulthood. The adult escapers show no external defects.
Heteroallelic combination of AxnΔRGS.αTub84B.T:Zzzz\FLAG and AxnΔArm.αTub84B.T:Zzzz\FLAG rescues AxnS044230 mutants (maternal-/zygotic-) to viability. Cuticle preparations of the rescued embryos reveal a wild-type pattern of denticle band segmentation with only the occasional loss of denticles in row 1. The rescued flies exhibit normal wing formation without any abnormal loss or gain of margin bristles.
The cuticle of AxnS044230 mutant (maternal-/zygotic-) embryos expressing maternally provided AxnΔArm.αTub84B.T:Zzzz\FLAG shows a loss of denticles, including a frequent loss of row 1 denticles.
About half of AxnS044230 (maternal-/zygotic-) mutant embryos expressing maternally provided AxnΔArm.αTub84B.T:Zzzz\FLAG successfully hatch. However, all of the rescued animals die at later stages.
