Nsf2lotus-O48 mutants exhibit tracheal morphogenesis defects. 35% of terminal cells show a gap in the gas-filled transition zone tube. The remaining 65% of cells lack gas-filling in all terminal cell tubes. Examination of first instar larvae shows that the initial formation and gas-filling of the terminal cell tubes occurs normally.

70% of Nsf2lotus-O48 mutant terminal cells show a discontinuous tube that is disrupted in the transition zone.

As in Nsf2lotus-O48 mutants alone, 70% of the terminal cells in Nsf2lotus-O48 GckIIIwheezy-770 double mutant third instar larvae show a discontinuous tube phenotype in the transition zone. However, in the remaining 30% of cells, the tube dilation seen in GckIIIwheezy-770 mutants is suppressed.
