Homozygous GckIIIwheezy-770 mutants exhibit tracheal morphogenesis defects. The terminal cells display a transition zone tube dilation defect. No defects are seen in heterozygotes.
In GckIIIwheezy-770 mutant clones a single large dilation is detected within the tube of the transition zone.
GckIIIwheezy-770 mutants exhibit mild tracheal terminal cell pruning and an air filling defect. Dorsal trunk clones show darker cuticle over the apical membrane.
GckIIIwheezy-770/Df(3R)MAP11 trans-heterozygotes exhibit a cross-veinless wing defect.

Heterozygosity for GckIIIwheezy-770 enhances the penetrance of the transition zone tube dilation defect seen in third instar larval trachea expressing Ccm3GD4767 under the control of Scer\GAL4btl.PS.
Expression of variGD13798 under the control of Scer\GAL4btl.PS partially suppresses the tracheal morphogenesis defects seen in GckIIIwheezy-770 mutant third instar larvae. Transition zone dilation is completely suppressed in 52% of terminal cells and partially suppressed in a further 20%. An additional 9% show a discontinuous tube phenotype reminiscent of that seen in Nsf2 mutants.
Expression of crbGD14463 under the control of Scer\GAL4btl.PS partially suppresses the tracheal morphogenesis defects seen in GckIIIwheezy-770 mutant third instar larvae. Transition zone dilation is completely suppressed in 61% of terminal cells and partially suppressed in a further 27%.
As in Nsf2lotus-O48 mutants alone, 70% of the terminal cells in Nsf2lotus-O48 GckIIIwheezy-770 double mutant third instar larvae show a discontinuous tube phenotype in the transition zone. However, in the remaining 30% of cells, the tube dilation seen in GckIIIwheezy-770 mutants is suppressed.
GckIIIwheezy-770 is rescued by GckIIIUAS.cSa/Scer\GAL4btl.PS
Pan-tracheal expression of GckIIIScer\UAS.cSa under the control of Scer\GAL4btl.PS rescues the tracheal morphogenesis defects seen in GckIIIwheezy-770 mutant third instar larvae.
