Homozygous Atg17^d130 mutants are pharate adult lethal. Escapers are very rarely seen in Atg17^d130 hemizygotes.

Atg17^d130 somatic clones exhibit severely impaired autophagosome formation.

Autophagosomes and autolysosomes are absent from the fat bodies of starved Atg17^d130 mutant larvae.

Loss of Atg17 in Atg17^d130 mutants blocks developmental autophagy in fat body cells and impairs programmed elimination of larval salivary glands during metamorphosis.
