Activation of Scer\GAL4VGlut.PC-expressing glutamatergic neurons (GNs) for two hours results in increased resistance to paraquat intoxication. Survival levels following direct application of paraquat to the ventral nerve cord (VNC) of decapitated flies are significantly reduced compared with unactivated controls. Most flies survive GN activation in the absence of paraquat. Neuromuscular junction function is unaffected.
