ScerGAL4Gr64a-GAL4 drives expression in 3 (of 4) prothoracic leg tarsal taste bristles in tarsal segment 5, 4 gustatory receptor neurons of the adult labral sense organ, 4 neurons in the posterior superior lateral protocerebrum and a single neuron in the anterior dorsolateral region of the brain. Expression partially overlaps with that of EcollexAVP16.Gr43a in these latter two regions. It does not drive expression in the S cells of the labellar taste bristles, in contrast to all other related sweet sensing gustatory receptor genes.
Inhibition (using Hsap\KCNJ2IVS.10xUAS.EGFP) of Scer\GAL4Gr64a-GAL4 cells in adult females results in a significant increase in preference for softer 100 mM sucrose-containing agarose for egg laying, compared to controls.
