Adult flies expressing NoxdsRNA.Scer\UAS.cRa under the control of Scer\GAL4tub.PU exhibit enlarged heads and subtle defects in clypeus morphology, as compared to controls. Males are fully fertile, but females produce very few or no progeny as a result of a defect in egg-laying. Females exhibit markedly expanded abdomens several days after eclosion, ovaries lack intermediate-stage oocytes but contain 3-4 stage 14 oocytes per ovariole, and mating occurs normally but ovulation occurs at a markedly lower rates. The few eggs that are laid by females expressing NoxdsRNA.Scer\UAS.cRa under the control of Scer\GAL4tub.PU have normal hatching rates as compared to those laid by controls.
Adult flies expressing NoxdsRNA.Scer\UAS.cRa under the control of Scer\GAL4nrv1.PS exhibit complete sterility, associated with severely "backed up" ovarioles in female flies.
Flies expressing NoxdsRNA.Scer\UAS.cRa under the control Scer\GAL4c179 or Scer\GAL4C855a produce significantly fewer offspring as compared to controls.
