Adult flies expressing Nox^{dsRNA.Scer\UAS.cRa} under the control of Scer\GAL4^tub.PU exhibit enlarged heads and subtle defects in clypeus morphology, as compared to controls. Males are fully fertile, but females produce very few or no progeny as a result of a defect in egg-laying. Females exhibit markedly expanded abdomens several days after eclosion, ovaries lack intermediate-stage oocytes but contain 3-4 stage 14 oocytes per ovariole, and mating occurs normally but ovulation occurs at a markedly lower rates. The few eggs that are laid by females expressing Nox^{dsRNA.Scer\UAS.cRa} under the control of Scer\GAL4^tub.PU have normal hatching rates as compared to those laid by controls.

Adult flies expressing Nox^{dsRNA.Scer\UAS.cRa} under the control of Scer\GAL4^nrv1.PS exhibit complete sterility, associated with severely "backed up" ovarioles in female flies.

Flies expressing Nox^{dsRNA.Scer\UAS.cRa} under the control Scer\GAL4^c179 or Scer\GAL4^C855a produce significantly fewer offspring as compared to controls.
