Deletion of nucleotides 340-487 of mod(mdg4) intron 4 (the last 5' intron). This deletion removes the "TSA" motif which is required and sufficient for trans-splicing.

      mod(mdg4)TSA-/mod(mdg4)TSA- mutants exhibit a significant increase in lethality during embryonic stages, however, adult mutants do not exhibit any obvious phenotypes, as compared to controls. mod(mdg4)TSA-/+ mutants exhibit similar levels of lethality regardless of whether the mod(mdg4)TSA- allele is inherited from the male or female parent.
