Deletion of nucleotides 646-799 of mod(mdg4) intron 4 (the last 5' intron). This deletion removes the "TSB" motif which is an enhancer of trans-splicing.

      mod(mdg4)TSB-/mod(mdg4)TSB- mutants exhibit a significant increase in lethality during embryonic stages, however, adult mutants do not exhibit any obvious phenotypes, as compared to controls. mod(mdg4)TSB-/mod(mdg4)TSB- females, but not males, produce embryos exhibiting semi-lethality when mated with wild type flies.
