The intersex phenotype and sterility of dsxΔ/dsxΔ flies can be rescued by combination with Dyak\dsx+t27I2 (the morphology of external genitalia and penis of the xenotransgenic rescue males is comparable to males rescued with a wild-type D. melanogaster dsx transgene, only minor defects in sex comb formation are observed) - apart from Dana\dsx+t21E22 this also rescues the dsxΔ mutant sterility.

Similarly, the xenotransgene also rescues the courtship behavior of dsxΔ mutants without imparting any of the unique species-specific courtship behavior but also without transferring the quantitative differences in aspects of the courtship behavior that are shared between the species (e.g. the time spent with wings extended or the angle of the wing relative to the body axis). The xenotransgenic rescue males also do not show species-specific song interconversion but sing like Drosophila melanogaster with alternating bouts of pulse and sine song.
