GMR regulatory sequences drive expression of Pink1 in which the N-terminal 93 amino acids have been replaced with the Tag:Mito(Tom20) outer mitochondrial membrane anchor signal. The protein is tagged with GFP.
Adult flies expressing Pink1GMR.T:Mito-Tom20,T:Avic\GFP do not display any apparent defects in eye morphology nor any loss of photoreceptors.

Co-expression of either parkGMR.T:Zzzz\FLAG or parkS94A.GMR.T:Zzzz\FLAG with Pink1GMR.T:Mito-Tom20,T:Avic\GFP leads to defects in adult eye morphology (glassy appearance and loss of pigmentation) and the flies show complete or significant and age-progressive lack of photoreceptor cells, respectively.
The reduced climbing ability, the defective morphology of mitochondria as well as the decreased number of brain dopaminergic neurons characteristic for Pink1B9 adults is rescued by combination with Pink1GMR.T:Mito-Tom20,T:Avic\GFP.
