knon1400 males are viable but completely sterile as they have no individualize, motile sperm the Nebenkern fail to elongate beside the growing flagellar axoneme (no mitochondrial derivatives are associated with the axonemes in the elongating spermatid cysts); the internal Nebenkern structure is aberrant but the mitochondria in the testes do have a membrane potential.
Females are both viable and fertile.
knon1400/Df(2R)7E is rescued by knonGFP(mut3star)
The spermatogenesis defect characteristic for knon1400 mutants cannot be complemented by combination with Df(2R)7E but are complemented by Df(2R)BSC550.
The male sterility as well as the defective mitochondrial shaping and elongation during spermatogenesis observed in knon1400;Df(2R)7E is rescued by combination with knonT:Avic\GFP-mut3star.
