GAL4 is under the control of 12 cAMP response element (CRE, TGACGTCA) repeats, followed by a footprint 5 sequence (GCGCCGGCGCTTCCAG), a Hsp70 promoter and an SV40 terminator.
ScerGAL412xCRE drives expression in approximately 350 gamma Kenyon cells, as well as small numbers of alpha/beta and alpha'/beta' Kenyon cells.
Inhibition (using shits1.UAS.Tag:MYC at 31[o]C) of Scer\GAL412xCRE cells in adults during training, consolidation or retrieval significantly reduces 2 h aversive olfactory memory, compared to controls; reduced memory is not seen when inhibition is restricted to a smaller subset of Scer\GAL412xCRE cells using Scer\GAL80Mef2.mb247, Scer\GAL80R64D02 or Scer\GAL80R72B08.
