OtopLa1 individuals show an aversive response to low-acid foods (HCl, Citric acid and Malic acid), instead of the preference observed in controls, and a reduced proboscis extension reflex response to low-acid. L6 sensilla fire significantly fewer action potentials in response to acid (low or high concentration) than controls.

OtopLa1 individuals expressing OtopLaE638A.UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Gr5a.8.5 show an aversive response to low-acid foods (HCl, Citric acid and Malic acid), instead of the preference observed in controls, and a reduced proboscis extension reflex response to low-acid.
