A single nucleotide deletion and mismatch in Diedel leads to a frameshift in translation.
A
Replacement of "TC" with "A" in codon 10 of Diedel leads to a net 1bp deletion and a frameshift.
DiedelΔ1 homozygotes and DiedelΔ1/DiedelΔ2 transheterozygotes present adult midgut epithelium defects, namely enterocyte detachment from the basement membrane, increased mitotic index and increased apoptosis, particularly in the epithelial cells that are detached from the basement membrane. DiedelΔ1 homozygotes also exhibit defects in visceral muscle fusion/attachment in the midgut and hindgut.
