The jsmCherry signal is first visible around twelve hours after egg laying but becomes prominent in first instar larvae, showing prominent fluorescence in the mouthparts, pharynx, and the pericardial cells. Right after hatching, signals are visible throughout the larval cuticle and in the form of puncta. As the larva grows, signal is present in guts, trachea, pharynx, humerus discs pericardial, and garland cells. Signal is observed surrounding the individual ducts and imaginal rings of the salivary glands. In pupae and adults, jsmCherry is abundant in all of the major joints of legs. It is also highly significant on wing, the mouth, and genitalia of both sexes. jsmCherry puncta appear to be located at the base of each major bristle. This is most prominent for bristles on the legs and wings. Puncta of jsmCherry are observed surrounding each ommatidium in the eye. Strong puncta are also observed in the ocelli.
