Expression first observed at second instar and becomes strong in third instar in the antennal lobe/mushroom body region, the interhemispheric junction, and in the suboesophageal ganglion.

By 20hrs APF there is a sharp reduction of ScerGAL4^SG1.1 expression in cells of the central brain and the subesophageal ganglion. By 24hrs APF there is an almost complete withdrawal of ScerGAL4^SG1.1 expression in the subesophageal ganglion, cells of the central brain and mushroom body. By 30hrs APF there expression increases again in these regions, but then declines again in brains of 41hrs APF pupae. A further increase in expression of ScerGAL4^SG1.1 in these regions is seen by 43hrs APF, reaching a peak at 48hrs, but then gradually decreases from 69hrs APF. At 48.5hrs APF, few cells in the optic lobe express ScerGAL4^SG1.1, but this expression is strongly increased by the end of pupation.
