Description
The TIM chaperone complexes are heterohexameric mitochondrial intermembrane space holdases that facilitate the transfer of membrane proteins imported across the outer mitochondrial membrane by the TOM complex and destined for insertion into the outer or inner membrane. They prevent the aggregation of the hydrophobic segments membrane proteins and transferring them to the appropriate insertase or translocase complex. (Adapted from PMID:19585663.)
