Parkinson-like disease phenotypes have been studied using Drosophila models in which locomotor defects and other neurodegenerative symptoms are produced by exposure to Bisphenol A (BPA, used in the production of polycarbonate plastics). Phenotypes indicative of oxidative stress are observed. A possible therapeutic treatment has been assessed using the Drosophila model.
See the FlyBase chemical report for bisphenol A (FBch0000077).
