Drosophila has been used as a model to study transgenerational phenotypic effects of parental hyperglycemia and/or obesity. Metabolic responses, feeding patterns, and cardiac function have been assessed in a wide variety of studies. Typically, parents are fed a high-sugar or high-fat diet and subsequent generations are raised on a standard diet. Although maternal contribution is more frequently assessed, a number of studies assess paternal contribution, or both.
