Subject: Sin3A-EcR interaction Dear Sir/Madam, I found a following genetic interaction in your Sin3A (and EcR) report: Tsai et al., 1999*: Only 14% of EcRE261st/Sin3Ak07401 flies derived from a cross of Sin3Ak07401 females to EcRE261st males survive (significantly lower than the expected 33.3%). Escapers show delayed development and wing defects; the wings are held horizontally at a 45-90o angle from the body axis. None of the EcRE261st/Sin3Ak07401 progeny of a cross of EcRE261st females to Sin3Ak07401 males survive to adulthood. I decided to check this interaction with different alleles therefore crossed EcRC300Y/BcGla females with Sin3A08269/Cyo,ry males. After scoring 288 F1 animals I couldn't see any reducement in the viability of EcRC300Y/Sin3A08269 progenies (102 flies with this phenotype emerged) and they don't have any visible phenotype. So it seems to me that the earlier reported interaction was caused by some background lethality. Best regards Laszlo Bodai Dept. Developmental and Cell Biology University of California Irvine
