Text of Personal Communication
At the time of designing the fly experiments described in Amorim et al 2017 (FBrf0234491), only one likely Drosophila melanogaster ortholog to mammalian SFXN3 was available - CG6812. This gene was therefore referred to in the manuscript as 'Drosophila SFXN3’.
However, it is now apparent that CG6812 shows greater homology to mammalian SFXN2, while a different gene, CG11739, has higher and roughly equal homology to mammalian SFXN1 and SFXN3.
We therefore propose that the following nomenclature be adopted in FlyBase:
CG6812: Sfxn2 (Sideroflexin 2)
CG11739: Sfxn1/3 (Sideroflexin 1/3)
Importantly, very similar phenotypes are observed upon elav-Gal4-mediated over-expression of CG11739 (using P{EPgy2}CG11739EY01545) to those described in the paper upon over-expression of CG6812.
