Expression is observed in the prospective wing hinge region of the wing disc.

Ecol\lacZ is first expressed atgastrulation along the trunk region of the embryo, in parasegments 3-13.Expression is more intense in the thorax than the abdomen and is not seenat all in the amnioserosa. Expression is also seen at the area of thefuture anal opening, the pharynx, the CNS, the PNS, the visceral mesoderm(primarily around the second midgut constriction), and in the somaticmesoderm and continues until the end of embryogenesis.
