CfaN and CfaC are an engineered pair of compatible split intein sequences that show efficient protein trans-splicing. They correspond to the N- and C-terminal half respectively of 'Cfa' (consensus fast), the consensus sequence from an alignment of 73 naturally occurring DnaE inteins that are predicted to have a fast rate of protein trans-splicing (PMID:26854538).
