4.3kb region of nanos genomic DNA from 700bp upstream of the transcription unit to 450bp downstream of the transcription unit, in which the entire nanos 3'UTR upstream of the polyadenylation signal has been replaced by a 627bp fragment of the bcd 3'UTR (the bcd 3'UTR fragment does not contain the bcd nanos response element (NRE)).
