In pupae, expressed at high level in SOPIIa and at low level in SOPIIb; expression is cytoplasmic.

In embryo, in precellular blastoderm, exhibits ubiquitous expression; starting at stage 9, exhibits pan-neural expression (both CNS and PNS). Embryonic expression reflects that of wild-type dpn, except is not expressed in pair-rule stripped pattern (late in stage 4) nor in proneural patches (extended germ band).
