A genomic EcoRI fragment from within the regulatory regions of the spalt complex, downstream of salr, is placed upstream of a weak P-element promoter followed by sequence encoding nuclear-localized lacZ.

Reference

Expression is detected in stripes of cells in the embryonic epidermis, in a pattern that partially overlaps endogenous salm expression. In the embryonic CNS, expression is only detected in cells in which salm and salr are not normally expressed. In the larva, expression is detected in photoreceptors and cone cells of the eye imaginal disc, and in specific domains of the wing, haltere, and leg imaginal discs. Expression in the wing disc shows ectopic and endogenous patterns.
