Description

A 2249bp fragment from upstream of natalisin is fused upstream of the Drosophila synthetic core promoter (DSCP) sequence encoding a GAL4::VP16 driver. The entire coding region has been optimised for Drosophila codon usage. An Hsp70 transcriptional terminator is present.

ScerGAL4natalisin.HsimVP16 drives expression in two pairs of interneurons in the adult cerebrum. These were named by the authors according to their location as anterior dorso-lateral interneurons (ADLI) and inferior contralateral interneurons (ICLI). These arborize in the anterior ventrolateral protocerebrum, the anterior adult subesophageal zone and project to the thoracico-abdominal ganglion. In contrast to immunolabeling the reporter is not expressed in neurons of the adult pars intercerebralis.
