In larvae, ScerGAL4^Octβ1R.PE is expressed in neurons on the dorsal surface of each hemisphere of the brain, thoracic neurons residing ventro-medially in the cortex beneath the CI fascicle, and three morphologically difference groups of neurons in the abdominal neuromeres. These three groups are as follows; bilateral pairs of dorsolateral neurons of three somata that comprise a cluster at the height of the DL fasicle in each neuromere from 1-8, a pair of bilateral neurons located ventro-laterally in each abdominal neuromere (excepting the last two) and a group of ventral paired median neurons located in the cortex beneath the VM fascicle that join and project along the segmental nerves to the periphery. In adults, expression is seen in a pair of soma clusters in the pars intercerebralis, the mushroom bodies, the great commissure, neurons innervating the lobula, lobula plate and medulla and clusters of neurons in the abdominal neuromeres.
