In 1 day old Actn14 larvae, Z lines are observed spaced at regular, but wider, intervals than in the wild-type in ultrastructural analysis of the muscles.

Actn14 follicle cell clones do not result in the production of abnormal eggs. At stage 10, some of these clones show a normal actin fiber pattern, while others show an actin fiber density that differs from wild-type cells. Any differences in actin density are cell autonomous.

Phenotype of homozygous germ line clones demonstrates is there is no maternal effect.

Larvae heterozygous for Actn14 and tnMJO-348 display normal F-actin striations. By comparison, tnMJO-348 mutants in a Actn14 heterozygous background display more extensive disorganisation, indicating enhancement of the tn mutant phenotype.

Actn14 vriunspecified double heterozygotes have progressive locomotory defects affecting the rear legs.
