heterochromatic rearrangement
Mutant embryos show muscle pattern element deletions. Muscles 4, 8, 21, 22 and 23 are most usually affected. Embryos do not demonstrate coordinate movement.
Hemizygotes display defects in CNS and PNS development. CNS has significantly fewer axons to make up the longitudinal connectives and the intersegmental and segmental nerves in embryos. The PNS has few or no chordotonal organs. Midgut constrictions do not appear, late embryos have a solid yolk plug.
crn4/Df(1)64c18 exhibits a similar phenotype to crn1 but more extreme phenotype, suggesting that it is hypomorphic. Lethal in female germ-line clones.
crn4 is an enhancer of haltere sensillum phenotype of Ubx9.22

Maternal germline clonal analysis demonstrates cell lethality in homozygous clones.
