Weak allele. Larval/pupal lethal. Some larvae show segmental fusions and occasional escapers show wing phenotypes similar to en1.

en mutant embryos lack all Keilin's organs. en7/en10 embryos grew in in vivo culture, producing implants containing imaginal discs and all larval tissues. Metamorphosed implants were often characteristic of eye-antenna discs, or sometimes thoracic discs. Tissues derived from the thoracic discs contained only anterior structures.

Male en7/en3 transheterozygotes have abnormal genitalia, with a reduced genital arch process, claspers, hypandrium, hypandrial phragma and penis apparatus.

Homozygous flies die late in embryogenesis. en2/en7 flies survive, although they have reduced viability and severely reduced fertility.
