B52s2249 homozygous mutant embryos do not show any hatching delay but show retarded larval growth and die about two days after hatching. The ventral nerve cord of the mutant larvae is narrower than in controls but no obvious structural defects are observed. B52s2249 larvae display defects in muscle movement: the frequency of coordinated muscle contractions is decreased in first instar larvae and second instar larvae appear rigid and paralysed compared to controls.
The number of ChAT vesicles in larval abdominal neuromeres is significantly decreased relative to controls.
