Detailed Description

Dominantly causes tergite defects in less than 35% of run3 heterozygotes.

No obvious ovary defect.

Heterozygotes have shorter bristles than wild type flies. Eclosion is delayed by 19 hours.

Heterozygotes have a Minute bristle phenotype and the eyes occasionally show a slight roughness. Larval development of heterozygotes is delayed by about 0.7 days at 25oC compared to control siblings. Larval development of heterozygotes is delayed by about 0.9 days at 21 +/- 2oC compared to control siblings.

The length of the posterior dorsocentral, posterior scutellar and femur bristles is reduced in heterozygotes compared to wild type.

Eyes somewhat rough; veins often show plexus; abdominal sclerites often abnormal; ocelli often reduced. Viability 80-90% wild type and fertility low. 13 hr delay in puparium formation at 25oC (Brehme, 1939); slight delay in time of second larval molt. Viability, fertility and classification excellent. homozygous lethal in first larval instar. Eggs recognizable have a thin chorion (Li, 1927).

Comments
Comments

M(2)58F1 complements l(2)SH2053[SH2053] (an insertion in the RpS24 gene), suggesting that M(2)58F1 does not disrupt RpS24 and may instead disrupt the nearby RpS16 gene.
