Bristles are shorter than normal and thin. Wings are occasionally upheld and the inner margins are frequently incised. Body colour: there is slight excess pigmentation, particularly on the thorax and posterior border of the abdominal tergites, making the "striped" effect of the anterior segments more marked. Males are viable but sterile.

The over-specification of primary pigment cell fates found in phyl2245 mutant somatic clones is suppressed in phyl2245 mib1 double mutants. These double mutants also exhibit significant rescue in the specification of B-H1-expressing R1 and R6 cell types.
